Polistes dominula (the European paper wasp), is one of the more common and well-known species of social wasps in Europe. Polistes gallicus is a fairly common species of European paper wasp, almost indistinguishable from the Polistes dominula, with which it had long been confused. The name paper wasp is because the nest is made from cellulosa.
